Mukurweini Technical Training Institute: Courses, fees, Admission letters, Contacts, and more

Mukurweini Technical Training Institute is the very first government technical institute to be established in the agricultural-rich Mukurweini subcounty, Nyeri.

The institute opened its doors to learners in May, 2015 with about 200 students and has subsequently witnessed tremendous progress.

Indeed, it’s arguably the fastest-growing college among its peers – Mathira Technical Training Institute and Kieni Technical Training Institute (Nyeri County) plus Gatanga Technical Training Institute and Mathioya Technical Training Institute (in the neighboring Muranga County).

For the first few months, the institute was under the mentorship of the reputable Mathenge Technical Training Institute situated in the neighboring Othaya subcounty.

A full-time principal has since been seconded by the ministry of education and a full college board of management commissioned.

This article will answer all your questions about Mukurweini Technical Training Institute, the rising star of technical education in the Mt Kenya region.

Let’s dive right in..

How to get to Mukurweini Technical Training Institute

Mukurweini TTI is in the Gikondi area, Mukurweini sub-county.

The college is a stone’s throw away from the newly constructed Blessed Sister Irene Nyaatha Stefani shrine at Gikondi Catholic Church, about 5 kilometers from the bustling Kiahungu Township.

If you’re coming from Nairobi, you will drive past Karatina town and branch off at Mukurweini junction, about 1 kilometer from Karatina Town along the Nyeri-Karatina highway.

You will then drive all the way past Kiahungu (should be a 15-20 minutes drive) and again branch off to Gikondi.

The junction to Gikondi from Kiahungu is near  Mukurweini subcounty hospital. The Gikondi road is murrammed and in good condition.

Those using public transport can take a Matatu to Karatina and alight at Karatina main bus terminus. Here you can ask any tout to direct you to Mukurweini matatus.

You may ask the driver to direct you to Gikondi proboxes when you alight at Kiahungu.

Those coming from Nyeri should board Mukurweini matatus at Nyeri lower bus terminus. You’ll then board Gikondi proboxes at Kiahungu.

Mukurweini Technical Training Institute Facilities

The college is constructed on an expansive land donated by the government and the surrounding community.

In the first phase, the state, through the department of technical and vocational education supplied and installed machinery and supporting training equipment worth Sh68 million.

The college has also invested in state-of-the-art lecture halls, engineering wing, and several ICT labs.

The other standout facility is the massive institute amphitheater where students assemble for entertainment and other social activities.

In the meantime, the students’ canteen stock most of the essentials so you don’t have to travel outside the college to buy stationeries or snacks.

Mukurweini Technical Training Institute Hostels

Students can hire boarding facilities from the nearby Catholic Church-run student’s hostels at Gikondi or rent single rooms from the college neighborhood.

In fact, the local community is very enterprising and you won’t lack residential plots in many of the surrounding homes.

Suffice to say that the monthly rent is dirt cheap- some landlords charge as little as shs.1000 per month for a single room.

Food is as well cheap and readily available considering that this is an agricultural zone.

I understand that the college hopes to commission its own hostels in the next few years due to the projected growth in students’ population.

Final thoughts

Mukurweini TTI is on the path to becoming a leading knowledge and technological hub in line with Kenya’s vision 2030.

And as we have seen, the college is well-placed to make you tomorrow’s topnotch engineer, ICT expert, or building technologist.

But you have to take the first step and apply either online via KUCCPS or by visiting the college.

Good luck.
